Lori McAllister To Be Inducted Into the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame

August, 2021 - Chicago, Illinois

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced that Lori McAllister, Lansing-based member of the firm’s Executive Board and member in the firm’s Insurance Industry Group, was selected as an inductee to the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame. McAllister will be recognized at the Hall of Fame’s 26th annual induction ceremony and dinner held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West.

The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame was established at Olivet College in 1994 as a way to pay tribute to individuals who have made a significant impact on the ability of the Michigan insurance and risk management industry to serve the public. An election panel, representing a cross-section of the insurance and risk management business, identifies leaders and/or innovators who have made significant contributions in five areas: product/service development, education, recruiting new participants, legislative and regulatory activity, and exemplary service.

McAllister’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and the defense of class action lawsuits. She regularly acts as outside counsel for insurers in complicated insurance class actions and advises insurance industry boards of directors on various issues as well as insurance industry clients on their day-to-day operations, corporate governance issues and audit committee matters.

McAllister recently served as lead defense counsel in a class action lawsuit filed against the insurance industry, which resulted in a complete defense victory and a reported decision from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals establishing the framework for the application of the federal racketeering laws to the automobile insurance industry. She also maintains an active practice before the Insurance Division of the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services and has successfully represented clients in cases before the Insurance Division where tens of millions of dollars were at issue.

In addition to her litigation practice, McAllister acted as the lead attorney in three of the four conversions of Michigan mutual insurance companies into stock companies under Michigan’s demutualization statute. Two of those companies traded on Nasdaq and a third is privately held.

Prior to taking her position on Dykema’s Executive Board, McAllister served as the firm’s General Counsel for more than a decade. Throughout her career, she has been recognized by many professional groups, including being listed in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2005, including being named “Lawyer of the Year” multiple times for both Lansing Insurance Law (2012, 2017, 2020) and Lansing Bet-the-Company Litigation (2016, 2021). She’s also been listed in Michigan Super Lawyers each year since 2007, including being named one of the “Top 50 Women” in Michigan three times.

McAllister earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan and a B.S., summa cum laude, from Central Michigan University.
