Ryan Borelo Selected for LeadershipSBOT

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced that Ryan Borelo, San Antonio-based attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, was selected by the State Bar of Texas (SBOT) as one of only 20 attorneys in Texas to be a member of the 2021-22 class of LeadershipSBOT.
Created in 2008 by then SBOT President Harper Estes, LeadershipSBOT is designed to increase diverse leadership participation within the legal community through the nomination of lawyers who possess both the desire and the potential to assume leadership roles in their communities and the State Bar of Texas.
LeadershipSBOT participants will examine what is expected of leaders and, with the advice and guidance of current leaders, discover how to best engage in public involvement to be effective in the profession and in the community. The year-long program consists of two training sessions and concludes with the presentation of group projects during the State Bar Annual Meeting.
In his practice, Borelo covers all areas of intellectual property law and has a diverse range of experience with various cases and issues, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and plant variety protection litigation. He is a registered patent attorney and has prosecuted patents in various areas, including chemical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, prints, semiconductor, software, electrical, and optical laser technologies.
Borelo has volunteered with several pro bono legal clinics to help many indigent clients, including a clinic to assist clients with housing legal issues, as well as the CARA pro bono initiative to provide legal assistance to immigrants in a Texas detention center. He has also volunteered in multiple cases to assist clients that are seeking asylum. Borelo is especially passionate about assisting clients through the immigration process since both of his parents are from South American countries and had to navigate the complexities of the process prior to obtaining residency and eventually citizenship in the United States.
Borelo earned a J.D. from Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School, an M.B.A. from BYU Marriott School of Management, and a B.S. from the University of Houston.
