Mike Gordon Quoted in Bloomberg Law After Senate Confirms Chopra as CFPB Director

Bradley partner Mike Gordon was quoted in Bloomberg Law discussing the U.S. Senate’s recent confirmation of Rohit Chopra as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Chopra, an agency veteran and former FTC official, has a reputation as an aggressive regulator. The Senate vote on Thursday was 50-48, with every Republican opposing his confirmation.

“Rohit will hit the ground running. He knows the agency, knows how to build support for agency actions, and will be swimming with the current of many like-minded CFPB staff,” Gordon said.

Gordon thinks Chopra will be pressed to move quickly on the agency’s regulatory and enforcement changes.

“CFPB rulemaking resources are limited, and the new rules wishlist of advocates and congressional Democrats are long,” he said.
