October, 2021 - Chicago, Illinois

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today that Lansing-based Member Ann Fillingham was appointed to serve as President of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL).

NABL promotes the integrity of the municipal market through the education of its members in the laws affecting state and municipal bonds. The organization provides its members with a forum for the exchange of ideas as to law and practice, giving its members some of the tools that help them continually improve the state of the art in the field. NABL also provides commentary and recommendations at the federal, state, and local levels concerning legislation, regulations, and rulings affecting bonds, and on occasion submits friend of the court briefs or memoranda in connection with court or administrative proceedings.

Fillingham held several leadership positions with NABL before her election as President. She has served as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors for six years and is also a past Chair of its Bond Attorneys’ Workshop. She regularly speaks at NABL conferences on matters related to public finance.

At Dykema, Fillingham serves as Director of the firm’s Regulated Industries Department. Her principal areas of practice include public and structured finance, infrastructure finance, and transactional work for financial institutions. Fillingham has served as bond counsel and underwriter's counsel to numerous state and local issuers. She has worked extensively with the State of Michigan and its various departments and authorities concerning both taxable and tax-exempt issues. In addition, she has served as bond counsel or underwriter's counsel on many county, municipal, school, and local authority bond issues and many conduit transactions for acute care and continuing care facilities, and economic development projects.

Fillingham earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan and a B.A., with high honors, from Michigan State University.
