Remembering Retired Partner and Friend Hobart McWhorter

Hobart McWhorter Jr.We mourn the passing of retired partner and friend Hobart McWhorter, who passed away on January 6, 2022, at the age of 90 after a brief illness. A legendary lawyer and long-time member of the firm, Hobart made invaluable contributions to Bradley as a highly successful litigator and tremendous mentor to many.

A native of Birmingham, Hobart joined the firm in 1958 after graduating from Phillips Exeter, Yale, and the University of Virginia School of Law. He quickly established himself as a skilled trial lawyer known for his fearlessness in the courtroom and fierce dedication to advocating on behalf of his clients. A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, he achieved an enviable number of accolades over his long career, earning recognition in Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America®, Benchmark Litigation and Mid-South Super Lawyers, among many others.

In addition to his accomplishments as a litigator, Hobart was a generous mentor to generations of young lawyers with whom he formed lifelong bonds. He was frequently involved in campaigns to support local charities, was a lifelong member and past Vestry member of Independent Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Redstone Club and Beaux Arts Krewe, and served as a past president of Mountain Brook Club. In his free time, Hobart was an avid fly fisherman, traveling extensively for the best catch of the day.

Beloved by family, friends, and colleagues, we fondly remember Hobart for his professionalism, his commitment to the rule of law, his wry wit, and his boundless sense of humor that always made him the life of the party. His remarkable life was one of extraordinary results.
