Shoosmiths' planning practice commended as one of the highest rated in England

June, 2022 - Milton Keynes, England

Shoosmiths’ planning practice is one of the highest rated in England.

The 2022 Planning Law Survey ranked the firm’s 23-strong planning team in the top four practices in England, highlighting its expertise in ‘emerging areas such as biodiversity’.

Joint-heads of the practice, Lisa Tye and Kathryn Jump, were also named as amongst the highest-rated planning solicitors, with Kathryn ranked second and Lisa rising to fifth.

The survey is published by Planning and invites solicitors, consultants, developers and local authorities to nominate barristers and solicitors who, in their view, exemplify best practice.

Shoosmiths’ success follows strong growth for the firm’s planning practice, which is now one of the largest in England. The practice moved up four places to equal seventh in the annual survey’s employer rankings, with eight partners, two legal directors and 13 lawyers.

Speaking on the survey, Kirsten Hewson, partner and head of real estate at Shoosmiths, said:

“Just days after being crowned Law Firm of the Year at the Planning Awards 2022, our planning practice continues to show its pre-eminence and market leading work. It’s great to see the survey spotlighting Kathryn and Lisa’s expertise and leadership, but also the talent of the wider team and their commitment to client excellence.”

Kathryn Jump, partner and joint-head of Shoosmiths' planning practice, commented:

“We’re incredibly proud of the team and their achievements – rising up the ranks to be one of the highest rated planning practices in England.

“It demonstrates the quality and impact of our work for leading commercial and residential developers, local authorities, investors and operators. These organisations are looking to us not only for our technical knowledge, but ability to find solutions to industry-wide challenges.

“That’s what sets Shoosmiths planning apart – dynamism, innovation and real-world sense. Our team embodies these values and I’m thrilled that their efforts are being recognised.”

Lisa Tye, partner and joint-head of Shoosmiths' planning practice, added:

“This is a key milestone for the planning practice. However, our team aren’t stopping there.

“We’re looking forward to building on these rankings and realising our future growth strategy, which involves helping our clients to deliver some of the most complex and ambitious regeneration schemes in the UK.”
