Bradley’s Margaret Oertling Cupples Named 2022 Susie Buchanan Award Recipient by Mississippi Bar Association

Bradley is pleased to announce that Margaret Oertling Cupples has been named the Mississippi Bar Association’s (MBA) 2022 Susie Buchanan award recipient.
The annual award, named for the first female lawyer to practice before the Mississippi Supreme Court, honors a woman lawyer who has achieved professional excellence in her field and paved the way for other woman lawyers to achieve success. Ms. Cupples was presented with the award at the 23rd Annual Price-Prather Luncheon at the MBA’s Annual Meeting in July.
“Margaret is an exceptional example for young attorneys; she has served as a mentor at our firm and in our community, and she promotes leadership among female lawyers,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Jonathan M. Skeeters. “We are proud of this well-deserved recognition for Margaret and cannot express our gratitude for the work she has done to create an environment of support in our Jackson office and firmwide.”
Ms. Cupples serves as Bradley’s Jackson office managing partner and focuses her practice on civil appeals and commercial litigation, including asbestos, coal workers’ pneumoconiosis, and silica mass tort and product liability cases, as well as litigation involving insurance sales practice, consumer finance, and other general commercial matters. She has participated in dozens of appeals in Mississippi’s Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and in the Fifth and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Additionally, Ms. Cupples volunteers in her community on a number of nonprofit boards, giving her significant experience in nonprofit governance and problem-solving. She also presents seminars on legal writing and helps mentor young attorneys seeking to improve their writing skills.
Ms. Cupples is a Fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation and is listed in Chambers USA in the area of Litigation: Appellate in Mississippi. She has also been recognized in Benchmark Litigation, The Best Lawyers in America and Mid-South Super Lawyers for her practice.
