Carey Olsen advises Jersey Electricity on plans for first ground-mounted solar farm

The proposed solar farm would be installed on a 12-acre site at Moulin à Vent in St Clement and forms part of the utility company's strategy to increase diversity in on-island electricity generation. Jersey Electricity hopes that Moulin à Vent will be the first in a series of strategically placed ground-based solar PV farms that will lead to the generation of 11 million kWh a year, enough to power more than 1,500 homes a year.
The Carey Olsen team advising Jersey Electricity throughout the process, including the preparation of bespoke contractual documents, comprised partner Chris Philpott and senior associate Lyndsay Houlette.

Carey Olsen continues to advise Jersey Electricity on the expansion of its existing roof-based solar programme, most recently in connection with a fifth planned array set to produce a further half a million kWh per year. The firm had previously advised the utility company on the lease agreements in 2020 for its solar arrays at both Woodside Farm and Jersey Dairy – the first PV arrays to be installed by Jersey Electricity on sites outside its own property portfolio.
As part of its plans for Moulin à Vent, Jersey Electricity has committed to work closely with local ecologists to ensure the site remains in agricultural use and to protect and improve wildlife habitats and biodiversity.
