Financial Services Litigator Brett J. Natarelli Rejoins Dykema’s Chicago Office

August, 2022 - Chicago, Illinois

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Brett J. Natarelli to its Financial Services Litigation Practice Group as a Member in the firm’s Chicago office. Natarelli, who previously practiced at Dykema from 2008-2013, rejoins the firm after practicing at Buckley LLP and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP in Chicago.

Natarelli’s practice is concentrated on consumer finance and protection laws. He handles a range of litigation and enforcement matters and provides compliance advice relating to mortgage origination, servicing and default issues. Natarelli also more broadly represents banks, mortgage servicers, state licensees and their bank partners, title insurers, debt collectors, and various other businesses with operations regulated by state and federal consumer finance laws in their litigation, enforcement, and compliance needs.

Natarelli has handled the full gamut of consumer finance class actions (loss mitigation, debt collection, mortgage servicing) as well as complex contested mortgage foreclosures, related appeals, and the RESPA mortgage servicing rules in addition to serving as liaison counsel to major servicers in relation to their foreclosure vendors. He has also defended clients in cases involving the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), and the Fair Housing Act (FHA), among other state and federal consumer protection statutes and regulations, and has likewise provided compliance, supervisory and enforcement advice on those topics. Natarelli also represented several major banks in repurchase and indemnification suits and pre-litigation negotiations concerning residential mortgage portfolios.

“We are very excited to have Brett come back to Dykema and bolster our already strong Financial Services Litigation group,” said Harry Arger, Managing Member of Dykema’s Chicago Office. “Brett’s practice and experience is a natural fit for our platform, and there is no doubt that Dykema and its clients will benefit from his knowledge and skillset.”

Natarelli is a co-editor of and contributing author to PLI’s Consumer Financial Services Handbook, one of the leading treatises in the field of consumer finance. For more than 10 years, he has been a member of the Board or active committee co-leader with the Illinois Mortgage Banker’s Association. Natarelli earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A., cum laude, from Benedictine University.
