Shoosmiths expands ECM team with two partner hires

December, 2022 - Milton Keynes, England

Law firm Shoosmiths further strengthens its offering in line with growing client demand with the appointment of two partners at its London office.

Oliver Pilkington and Nick McCarthy both join Shoosmiths from BDB Pitmans. Their appointment expands Shoosmiths’ equity capital market (ECM) capability, building on the success of Shoosmiths’ market leading private equity and venture capital practice.

Nick has 20 years’ experience working in the corporate teams of both UK and international law firms, principally focusing on ECM work for a number of listed public companies and nominated advisers (NOMADs). He has also covered M&A transactions for various large corporate and private equity backed clients.

Similarly, Oliver has built an impressive reputation in the ECM field, growing BDB Pitman’s ECM practice from scratch alongside Nick. He has also worked with both public and private company clients on general corporate advisory work.

Ben Turner, head of Shoosmiths’ M&A team, commented: “The appointments of Oliver and Nick are an important strategic step for our national corporate team, significantly enhancing our ECM credentials as we look to support the broker and NOMAD community alongside deepening our public company offering and the wider market in London.
“Both are impressive operators with proven records of winning and delivering work in this area and will add considerable bench strength to our London corporate team, already known for its strong client base and reputation for excellence in the market.”

The announcement follows a significant period of growth for the London corporate team, including the recent arrival of tax partner Dan Sharman from Osborne Clarke. Shoosmiths corporate division continues to advise on more high value and high calibre transactions than ever before, ranking first in London for the number of mergers and acquisitions advised on in Q3 2022, according to the latest Experian rankings.
