Spilman Elects Three New Members

Charleston, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Erin Jones Adams, Tai Shadrick Kluemper, and James E. Simon were elected as Members of the law firm effective January 1, 2023.

Jones Adams rejoined Spilman in late 2021 after a multi-year engagement supporting executive administration and compliance initiatives at a liberal arts college. Her primary areas of practice now include employment law, corporate law, and education law. She draws on her diverse background to provide practical and tailored solutions for clients. She currently serves as co-chair of Spilman’s Education Law Practice Group and spearheaded the launch of the practice group’s e-newsletter, The Academic Advisor. She is based in the firm’s Winston-Salem, North Carolina office.

Kluemper’s practice focuses on litigation, with an emphasis on consumer finance, product liability, asbestos, and class actions. She has extensive experience defending financial institutions and other creditors in litigation involving alleged violations of state and federal consumer protection laws. Beyond her law practice, she serves as Vice Chair of Recruiting, as the Director of Diversity Recruitment & Development, and on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee at Spilman. She is based in the firm’s Charleston, West Virginia office.

Simon focuses his practice on civil litigation and trial work, with particular emphasis on representing multinational and regional companies in complex commercial litigation. He has litigated numerous appeals in cases involving breach of contract, arbitration clauses, the Uniform Commercial Code, constitutional challenges, tax assessment disputes, public-private financing issues, and business zoning matters. He also regularly represents construction industry clients in a variety of disputes. He is based in Spilman’s Winston-Salem, North Carolina office.
