Garrigues named ‘Tax Firm of the Year’ in Spain for fourth year running

Garrigues has won the European award for ‘Tax Firm of the Year’ in Spain for the fourth consecutive time. It is the only firm that has won the award in the four-year history of the ‘European Tax Awards’ which are presented annually by International Tax Review to recognize the excellence of European firms in tax work in the previous year. Garrigues also picked up two further nominations in the categories for ‘Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year’ in Spain and ‘European Tax Litigation Firm of the Year’. In the case of Portugal, the Firm was a candidate on the final shortlist for ‘Tax Firm of the Year’.

At present, the Garrigues Tax Department has nearly 600 professionals, of whom 83 are partners. Apart from recognition of the Department, the panel of judges rated very highly the Firm’s international expansion in this past year, which has seen the consolidation of its offices in emerging markets such as China, North Africa, and Eastern Europe, and the furtherance of its strategy to be have a presence in strong legal markets with the opening of a London office and the enlargement of its New York and Brussels offices.

Taxand wins ‘Best Newcomer’ award

International Tax Review also highlighted the growth of the independent tax network Taxand, of which Garrigues is a founding member. The alliance managed to walk away with this year’s ‘Best Newcomer’ award, an accolade that recognizes the work of and impact made by firms that have recently begun operating in the market.

Together with the ‘Best Newcomer’ award, another three Taxand firms (not counting Garrigues) received the ‘Tax Firm of the Year’ accolades within their respective countries: Bech Bruun (Denmark); Zepos&Yannopoulos (Greece); and Atoz (Luxemburg).

Taxand was set up in 2005, since when it has expanded spectacularly. At present, it is composed of 43 member firms across the world and boasts more than 2000 professionals, of whom 300 are partners. “The growth of Taxand in just three short years is a clear indication of how seriously companies view the need for independent tax advisors who are not subject to time consuming audit conflicts and constraints,” according to Taxand Chairman Frederic Donnedieu de Vabres. “Now companies are able to access a seamless worldwide network of premier tax firms whose experienced professionals share a common goal of delivering objective advice and outstanding service to local and international clients.”
