May, 2008 - Madrid, Spain

Chambers Europe has also revealed the results of its annual rankings in the European legal market. In Spain, Garrigues was rated extremely highly, finishing in Tier 1 (the top category) in seventeen practice areas, an improvement on the previous year when the Firm was ranked in the top tier in twelve practice areas.

Specifically, Chambers Europe 2008 ranks Garrigues in Tier 1 in: M&A; Banking and Finance; Sports; Litigation; Employment; Environment; Climate Change; Energy; Capital Markets: Securitization; Planning; Private Equity; Project Finance; Public Law; Restructuring and Insolvency; Tax; Tax: M&A, and TMT: Information Technology.

In Portugal, Garrigues rose up the rankings with respect to the previous year. Particularly worth noting is the Intellectual Property area, in which it climbed from tier four to tier two. In the Capital Markets area, the Firm also consolidated its position as a Tier 2 practice, while the Tax practice again claimed a tier 3 place, as did the Competition, Employment and Real Estate practices (the last three thus beating last year’s positions). Chambers Europe also highlighted the performance of the Brussels office in the Competition Law area (Tier 5), and Garrigues Poland in the M&A area (Tier 4).

The Chambers rankings include 65 of Garrigues’ practitioners among Europe’s ‘Leading Lawyers’, where Firm partners Ricardo Gómez (Tax) and José Guardo (Project Finance) were singled out for praise.
