Shepherd and Wedderburn Secures First Scottish Customer Contact Hub for John Lewis

December, 2009 - Glasgoo, Scotland

Leading law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has acted for John Lewis plc in securing the lease of Fintry House, a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m) office building at Hamilton International Park in Lanarkshire. The retailer plans to house its new centralised customer contact centre in the building, with up to 280 staff located there, comprising both existing staff and the creation of new jobs.

The firm’s property team, led on this occasion by partner John Murray, acted for John Lewis, with the Shepherd and Wedderburn construction team providing specialist support.

The new customer contact centre, one of only two in the UK, is undergoing a high quality fit-out, to provide a first class working environment for the John Lewis ‘partners’. It is expected to become fully operational by June 2010.

John Murray, partner in the property team at Shepherd and Wedderburn in Glasgow, said: “This is a significant deal in today’s market, creating jobs in Scotland and illustrates the John Lewis Partnership's commitment to excellent customer service for which it is famous.”

The deal comes on the back of Shepherd and Wedderburn’s involvement in some of Scotland’s most significant property deals in the past year, underlining the firm’s leading position in the market.
