Shepherd and Wedderburn appointed to advise the Scottish Community Foundation

August, 2010 - Edinburgh, Scotland

Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has been appointed as legal advisers by the Scottish Community Foundation (the Foundation), the largest grant-maker to the voluntary sector in Scotland.

The firm will provide a range of services to the foundation and its associated events company, SCF Events, including charity, employment, IP/IT and property law.

The Foundation provides administrative and management support to donors, making their charitable giving easy and tax-efficient, and also provides a link to charities that are seeking funding. It supports community activities in every Scottish local authority area and distributes over £3.5 million in grants each year.

The Foundation is also renowned as organiser of the popular Caledonian Challenge, which sees company teams compete to undertake a gruelling 54-mile hike along the West Highland Way in 24 hours.

Malcolm Rust, partner in the charities team at Shepherd and Wedderburn, leads the Scottish Community Foundation team. He said: “This is an exciting win for the firm and, as one of Scotland’s foremost charities, it will be a flagship client. We very much look forward to working with the Foundation.”
