Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has appointed highly regarded lawyer John MacKenzie as partner in its commercial dispute resolution practice.

An experienced Solicitor Advocate, John deals with a range of commercial litigation and has particular expertise in intellectual property and IT matters. As well as appearing before the Court of Session and Inner House, John advises clients in relation to IP portfolio management and in particular online brand protection. John has experience in acting for clients from a variety of sectors, UK-wide, including energy and utilities, banking, IT and manufacturing. He is accredited as a specialist in intellectual property law and sits on the Lord President's Consultative Committee on Commercial Actions.

John joins Shepherd and Wedderburn’s 30-strong commercial disputes and regulation practice that already advises a number of high profile clients across the firm's key sectors of energy, financial services, government and public sector and real estate and construction.

Patrick Andrews, Chief Executive of Shepherd and Wedderburn said: "John is a recognised leader in his field and will be a real asset to the firm, bringing with him both general commercial litigation experience as well as specialist IP and IT advocacy. We are delighted that he will be joining the team at a time when we are continuing to invest in those areas of practice where we see real potential for growth."

The appointment follows the recruitment of partner Guy Harvey to the commercial disputes team in London. Guy joined from Dickinson Dees in December.
