EnerSys acquires majority stake in Energy Leader Batteries; Amarchand and Kochhar advise

Bar & Bench News Network: US-based EnerSys has formed a new joint venture company in India to produce and market batteries for industrial applications. EnerSys has acquired majority stake in Hyderabad-based Energy Leader Batteries India Limited, an Indian producer of industrial batteries for an undisclosed sum.

Kochhar & Co. advised EnerSys with a team led by Mumbai Partner Rajarshi Chakrabarti along with Associates Alpana Srivastava, Manav Shah and Tulika Chakraborty.

Amarchand Mangaldas advised Energy Leader Batteries with a team led by Partner Nivedita Rao along with Principal Associate Meera Shidhaye and Associate Arka Majumdar.

The joint venture will serve both reserve power and motive power customers in India.

According to Dealcurry, Energy Leader Batteries, incorporated in 2007, manufactures valve-Regulated-Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries for industrial applications. The company offers VRLA batteries for Telecom industry (fixed line operators, cellular service providers, switch & exchange OEMs) and Railways.

EnerSys manufactures and distributes reserve power and motive power batteries, chargers, power equipment and battery accessories to customers from over 100 countries through its sales and manufacturing facilities strategically located all over the world including North America, South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia.
