New partner and head of London Finance practice appointed

May, 2012 - Sydney, New South Wales

Minter Ellison today announced the appointment of Nicola Marley, a London-based, Australian-qualified finance lawyer, as a partner and head of the firm's London finance team. She joins from Mayer Brown International LLP.

"Nicola's appointment continues our strategic commitment to London," John Weber, Minter Ellison's Chief Executive Partner said. "As a key global financial centre and an important base for Australian clients operating in the UK and throughout Europe, it is important for us to have a strong partner presence on the ground here."

Ms Marley's recruitment follows Minter Ellison's relocation of partner Nigel Clark, the former head of the London finance practice, to the Beijing office to develop the firm's finance capability in Greater China and Mongolia.

As the third partner in Minter Ellison's London office – she joins corporate and capital markets specialists Michael Whalley and Michael Wallin – Ms Marley adds further depth and capability to the Australian firm's offering. With more than 50 years of collective London market experience, this team provides real time Australian law advice tailored to the needs of UK and European clients and market standards.

In announcing the appointment, London Managing Partner, Michael Whalley, said: “Nicola brings significant expertise to the finance group and we are delighted to welcome her to our strong and growing team in London. As we continue to invest in key practice areas and offices globally, Nicola’s extensive experience on important and complex deals and transactions builds on our strengths as a firm to deliver a seamless Australian law service to our clients in the UK and across Europe.”

Ms Marley has a broad experience of finance transactions and specialises in advising private equity sponsors, financial institutions and companies on financing deals and related restructurings. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Applied Science (both from the University of Queensland) and is admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of England and Wales and the Supreme Court of Queensland.

In addition to its top-tier Australian presence Minter Ellison boasts finance specialists on the ground in London, Greater China and New Zealand, enabling the team to service clients' multi-jurisdictional finance needs. The firm's finance specialists advise on a full range of corporate, real estate, project and structured finance transactions, working with national and multinational corporations, national and international banks, investment banks, other financial institutions and intermediaries and government organisations.

Minter Ellison’s London office opened in 1974 – the first Australian firm to have an on-the-ground presence in The City.
