New Partner joins Kochhar & Co. - Mr Piyush Gupta

Mr Piyush Gupta has recently joined Kochhar & Co. as Partner, and heads the competition advisory practice group of the firm. Piyush has had over 9 years of trans-national experience in the competition law regimes across India and Singapore. With the induction of Piyush, the Firm’s competition advisory team shall be able to advise clients on a full range of competition law matters, including:
Competition Advisory & Notifications - reviewing potentially anti-competitive agreements and practices, as well as conducting audits on business practices and arrangements. This includes assisting our clients by preventing their suppliers, customers and competitors from carrying out anti-competitive strategies against their businesses; representing clients in their notifications to the Competition Commission of India (“CCI”) and assisting with the preparation of the filings as well as any subsequent follow-on matters
Merger Advisory & Clearance - advising companies on the competition law aspects of their proposed mergers and acquisitions; preparing and lodging merger filings on behalf of our clients and representing them during the review process
Competition Audit, Compliance & Dawn Raid Training - assisting companies from a cross-section of industries in structuring and implementing compliance programmes and "dawn raid" guidelines as well as handling investigations conducted by competition regulators
Investigations & Dawn Raid Assistance - providing immediate assistance to companies in the event of a "dawn raid" by the competition regulator to manage the investigation process by minimising exposure and to protect the confidentiality of commercially sensitive information and defending companies and conglomerates being investigated, by the CCI and other competition regulators, for alleged anti-competitive behaviour
In addition to the above, Piyush will also be heading the Firm’s aviation law practice. Having specifically worked in the airline industry over the last 5 years, Piyush has garnered considerable insights into the complexities and technicalities involved in the contractual and other documentation that are drafted and executed in this sector. Piyush has negotiated and worked extensively on a number of transactions in the airline industry, including aircraft leases, purchase of aircraft components, fleet management programmes and other major upgrades and maintenance contracts, ground handling agreements, code-share and interline agreements, cargo and air cargo agreements.
