LAWIN has been crowned the Baltic Law Firm of the Year at The Lawyer’s European Awards

September, 2011 - Tallinn, Estonia

The Lawyer, one of the most preeminent European legal magazines, has again recognized LAWIN as the leading law firm in the Baltics. LAWIN was the first The Lawyer’s European award winner within the category "Scandinavia & The Baltic States" in 2009, and the only law firm from the Baltic States that has ever been shortlisted for that category. In 2011, the "Scandinavia & The Baltic States" has been divided into two categories. And, on September 28, at The Lawyer’s European Awards ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, LAWIN Management Board Member Mr Filips Klavins has received the first award of the newly established “The Baltic States” category.

Mr Rolandas Valiunas, Chairman of the LAWIN Management Board, comments that The Lawyer’s recognition once again proves and fortifies the firm’s position as No 1 law firm in the Baltics. “Since 2004, when LAWIN was established, the firm has been investing significant amount of financial and human resources to ensure that the firm’s services are of the highest quality and standards; that the firm has the best people, the greatest know-how and established business processes, which all combined allow us to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations. We are honoured that our efforts are recognized not only by our clients, but also by the most prestigious international publications and legal directories”, - says Mr Valiunas.

LAWIN’s Chairman also says that the firm has been pleased by its receipt of other important recognitions this year. One such acknowledgement - in March, LAWIN received “The Law Firm of the Year 2011: Baltics” award for legal innovation in the area of corporate finance from the world’s leading publication in the field of international finance - International Financial Law Review (IFLR).

Also this year Thomson Reuters - the world’s leading source of intelligent information - announced the results of its analysis of the M&A markets for the first five months of 2011. LAWIN, together with worldwide legal services giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, has been ranked No 1 M&A deals adviser in the whole Eastern Europe and Greece region. “This outstanding ranking for LAWIN demonstrates the firm’s undisputed position among the top legal advisors in the Baltics and even in the Eastern Europe region, as well as highlights post-recession improvement of the M&A market in the region. LAWIN advised in 13 major M&A deals during the first half of 2011,’- Mr Valiunas comments.

The Lawyer&s UK legal awards have been the industry&s benchmark of quality for more than a decade. In 2009, it was the first time when this weekly magazine decided to give European awards for the best law firms in continental Europe. A judging panel, made up of in-house counsel of multinational companies and heads of private practice, review submissions from the leading law firms in more than 47 countries. The entries are judged on the following criteria: strategic vision, strong partnership ethos, strong financial performance and growth, consistent excellence in the chosen sectors and excellent talent management.
