Jaime Zaldumbide has recently been designated as Senior Counsel in Carey. Mr. Zaldumbide is an Ecuadorian lawyer, admitted to practice both in Ecuador and in Chile. He is member of Carey’s Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Group. His professional practice is focused on energy law (oil, gas, mining and electricity) and environment.

He graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Law School, and earned a Master in Environmental Law at University of the Basque Country in San Sebastián, Spain. He also has several graduate studies related to Negotiation, Oil and Gas and Sustainable Development matters at Harvard University, Southern Methodist University, South Western Legal Foundation, and Columbia University.

Mr. Zaldumbide is member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (since 1992), where he also is part of the board of the Latin American Committee. Also, he is arbitrator of the Arbitration Center of the Quito Construction Chamber, and member of the Quito Bar Association.

Between 1991 and 1996, he acted as legal manager at the oil & gas company KerrMcGee Ecuador Energy Corporation (currently Anadarko), and he also was appointed as private secretary to the Minister of Energy and Mines of Ecuador (1984-1987). He has been in the private practice on energy law since 1996.
