Kochhar & Co. Facilitates EIL’S Largest Ever Overseas Foray

Kochhar & Co. has acted as project counsel for Engineers India Limited's (EIL) largest ever overseas foray. The engineering contract initialed on November 22, 2013 is for a lump sum amount of INR 867 Crores (USD 139 Million) and for a Petrochemical Refinery project in Nigeria, to be set by Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals LFZ at a total cost of around INR 54 Thousand Crores (USD 9 Billion).
The Contract is for Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) and Project Management Consultancy (PMC) Services for Dangote's grassroot 400,000 BPD (20 million tonnes) Petroleum Refinery and 600,000 tonnes Polypropylene Plant to be set up in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Nigeria. The refinery would be the largest in Africa for export of Nigerian crude oil and is expected to be completed by 2016.
The initialing of the Contract followed a long protracted negotiation, lasting for weeks.
Kochhar & Co.'s team consisted of Mr. Ngangom Junior Luwang (Partner), Mr. Avichal Prasad (Senior Associate) and Mr. Akshay Bhagchandani (Associate). Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals LFZ was represented by the London based Law Firm, Pinsent Masons.
Kochhar & Co.'s scope of work included vetting, dovetailing technical//commercial requirements into the Contract and negotiations, general legal consultancy services and specific issue-based legal opinions apart.
