Named Tax Lawyer of the Year 2014 by Finance Monthly magazine and the directory Best Lawyers, Miguel C. Reis will be based in Oporto

PLMJ has strengthened its tax team with the arrival of one of Portugal’s leading tax lawyers, Miguel C. Reis. With more than 25 years’ experience in advising clients on domestic and international tax matters, the new PLMJ partner has worked at some of the most prestigious Iberian law firms and some of the largest auditing companies operating in Portugal.

Miguel C. Reis will join PLMJ’s office in Oporto as part of the firm’s focus on consolidating its position as a leader in the north and centre of the country and as a full-service office. Set up in October 2002, PLMJ’s Oporto office already has one of the largest teams of lawyers in the city and the northern region, with more than 20 lawyers coordinated by partner, Tomás Pessanha.

Miguel C. Reis will be the fourth partner to join the tax team that was recently named “Portugal Tax Firm of the Year 2014” by “International Tax Review", the leading international tax publication. The team is led by João Magalhães Ramalho and also includes partners Nuno da Cunha Barnabé and Serena Cabrita Neto.

With an impressive background in tax law, Miguel C. Reis was named Tax Lawyer of the Year 2014 by Finance Monthly and by Best Lawyers for his experience in advising on innumerable large-scale tax matters for clients including a Nacional and Milaneza (from the Cerealis group), Colep and RAR.
He is a member of the principal Portuguese and international tax and legal associations, including the Portuguese Fiscal Association, the International Fiscal Association and the International Bar Association. He is also a member of the board of the Portuguese-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The new PLMJ partner also has a recognised academic career and has completed two postgraduate courses in management: Strategic Management at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics and Advanced Management at IESE Business School in Barcelona.
Miguel C. Reis regularly takes part as speaker on tax issues at seminars and conferences. He also frequently publishes articles in specialist reviews and in the press on tax issues.
