May, 2006 - Madrid, Spain

For the second year running, Garrigues has won the European Tax Awards for “National Tax Firm of the Year” and “Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year”. The accolades were awarded by International Tax Review at the second European Tax Awards. The Awards aim to recognize the excellence in tax services of European firms in the past year.

The jury evaluated the Firm’s tax work as a whole in 2005, which included advising on major transactions such as the sale of AUNA’s cable and wireline telephony subsidiaries to Grupo Corporativo ONO; the creation of a new financial services venture between GE Capital and Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo and the tender offer for 100% of the Cortefiel’s capital stock, to name but a few.

The Garrigues Tax Department currently comprises a team of 520 professionals, including 74 partners. Recently, the Firm has strengthened and increased its tax practice, with the start-up of the tax practice at the Portugal branch and the opening of two international offices in Casablanca and Shanghai. Furthermore, Garrigues is a member of Taxand, the first global alliance specializing exclusively in taxation and currently boasting 21 firms across Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia.

The European Tax Awards ceremony took place on Wednesday evening at Claridges Hotel in London. Garrigues was well represented by a large contingent from the Tax Department.
