Kapihan sa SyCip: “The Upshot: Resetting Your Privacy Settings Under The Data Privacy Act Of 2012”

SyCipLaw’s Special Projects Department hosted a seminar on the Data Privacy Act of 2012, its implementing rules and the latest circulars of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) last March 24 at the 17th Flr. of the SyCipLaw Center. The session was designed to focus on how the Data Privacy Act (DPA) impacts organizations, compliance requirements, and the process of registering the data processing system with the NPC. The event gathered 81 participants, including those involved in legal services, computing, risk management, information security, finance management, marketing, and tax planning, from 36 companies.
Former Congressman Roman T. Romulo, who was one of the proponents of the DPA, opened the session with a background on its drafting and promulgation. SyCipLaw partner Rose Marie M. King-Dominguez provided an overview of how the DPA applies to companies, including its requirements and coverage. NPC Deputy Commissioner Ivy D. Patdu discussed in detail compliance concerns, best practices, and case studies. Participants were able to subsequently discuss concerns and issues with the featured speakers.
