Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek advises Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG on the acquisition of Werhahn mill in Duisburg

July, 2017 - Duesseldorf, Germany

Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG, Duisburg, has acquired the Werhahn mill in Duisburg's inner harbor from alltours Flugreisen GmbH, Düsseldorf. The Werhahn mill, comprising about 27,000 square meters of space with some 50 tenants, will be used as an office and restaurant complex. The brick building, which is partly protected as a historic monument, on the promenade of the inner harbor houses two renowned restaurants, "Diebels" inn and "Bolero." The property had been acquired in a foreclosure sale by "Alltours" in 2011. After the acquisition and conversion of the former Alltours headquarters on Schifferstrasse to the new banking headquarters by Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG in 2014/2015, the cooperative bank is once again investing in the regional environment and the inner harbor in Duisburg.

A team across various offices and departments led by Düsseldorf-based real estate specialists Christoph Nöhles, LL.M. and Dr. Peter Vocke advised the cooperative bank comprehensively on the transaction. "We are pleased to have successfully supported Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG in its investments in the region once again, thereby securing the historic Werhahn mill in Duisburg's inner harbor," said Christoph Nöhles.

Duisburg-headquartered Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG is one of the largest cooperative banks in North Rhine-Westphalia with a balance sheet total in excess of EUR 1.47 billion.
