Shoosmiths advises NVM Private Equity on investment into e-commerce technology provider

September, 2017 - Thames Valley, England

National law firm Shoosmiths has advised NVM Private Equity (NVM) on its investment into Volo Commerce, a provider of multi-channel e-commerce technology to support online merchants and brands selling through market places such as Amazon and eBay.

NVM led the latest investment round into the UK-based company, which raised £6.2m. The company - which already has an office in New York - will use the cash to expand into the US and other international sales channels.

By using Volo’s software platform, customers are able to efficiently and rapidly grow their e-commerce businesses by accessing leading marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Walmart, and automating all aspects of the selling process. The solution incorporates multichannel best practices and know-how, while giving customers valuable analytics to improve profitability and drive growth. Volo supports hundreds of customers ranging from major brands to online specialists, to achieve greater scale through marketplace selling and international expansion, by removing costs and complexity.

Shoosmiths corporate partner Rachel Turner led the deal, assisted by corporate solicitor, Robert Pook.
NVM’s Private Equity investment director Charlie Winward, said: “We are looking forward to partnering with Volo as it brings its solution and expertise to new customers. “The growth in multichannel e-commerce continues to accelerate and is a huge opportunity but also a complex challenge for most businesses. Volo has built a platform that removes much of this complexity with a revenue model that aligns with its customers to drive growth.

Shoosmiths’ pragmatic approach and experience in lead investment advice, particularly in this sector, was a key factor in completion of this investment round relatively smoothly”

Shoosmiths’ Rachel Turner, added: “This is a great investment for NVM at a time when ERP systems are becoming central to business efficiencies. It’s been a pleasure working with Charlie and the wider NVM team on this key strategic investment and we look forward to seeing Volo grow in the future.”

Shoosmiths' corporate team has advised public and private companies, management teams, investors and debt providers through the business life cycle. Shoosmiths work with businesses from start-up and first round finance through to mergers and acquisitions, MBO and MBI transactions, development funding and on exits, by way of sale, listing or private equity investment.

Nationally, the corporate team is ranked in first place by deal volume in Experian's 2016 MarketIQ UK & Ireland M&A league tables. The team was recognised for its mergers and acquisitions expertise at the 2015 M&A Awards, winning the Law Firm of the Year category.
