Haynes and Boone Teams With Halliburton for Houston Pro Bono

April, 2018 - Dallas, Texas

Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers teamed with representatives from client Halliburton to provide legal assistance for 75 Houstonians at a pro bono clinic on March 24.

During the neighborhood clinic, volunteer lawyers met with each client for 30 minutes to assess their needs, provide advice and determine whether they required more-extensive assistance.

Haynes and Boone Partner John Eldridge, who practices in the Houston office and co-chairs the firm's Pro Bono and Public Service Committee, said that about half the clients needed help with family law issues. Other cases involved real estate, contract and credit problems.

"Spending a few hours assisting people with serious legal problems is really rewarding and brings to mind some of the best things about the legal profession," Eldridge said.

In addition to Eldridge, Haynes and Boone volunteers were Partners Donald Jackson and Mark Tidwell and Associates James Long, Kim Mai and Vinu Raj. Halliburton participants included lawyers and legal assistants.

The clinic was organized by Houston Volunteer Lawyers, an arm of the Houston Bar Association.

Haynes and Boone frequently joins with its clients on projects to assist individuals who couldn't otherwise afford legal help. Earlier this year, the firm collaborated with ExxonMobil to provide pro bono advice for nonprofits through the United Way of Greater Houston. On May 4, lawyers from Haynes and Boone's Dallas office and ExxonMobil lawyers will staff the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program's Veterans Legal Clinic.
