AT&T Selects Haynes and Boone for Diversity and Inclusion Award

May, 2018 - Dallas, Texas

Haynes and Boone, LLP has won the 2018 AT&T Legal Department Diversity and Inclusion Progress Award.

Each year, AT&T honors one of its outside law firms for making the most progress in promoting a diverse workplace. With its 2018 award, AT&T sought to spotlight firms that had made progress during 2017 in diversifying their attorney ranks and were working to increase the pipeline of diverse talent entering the legal profession.

At a May 2 ceremony, AT&T General Counsel David McAtee II praised Haynes and Boone for its expansion of Haynes and Boone's 1L Diversity Scholars Program, which provides stipends and firm clerkships to diverse first-year law students. The firm recently doubled the size of its 1L Diversity Program and has made progress on many other pipeline initiatives, including summer workshops at which high schoolers explore life as a lawyer; firm visits for middle school students; and mentoring sessions with University of Texas at Arlington undergraduates. The firm also is collaborating with high schools from coast to coast and has ongoing partnerships with Dallas' L.G. Pinkston High School to provide students with in-depth exposure to careers in the legal field.

McAtee also commended Haynes and Boone for increasing the number of diverse attorneys working on AT&T matters in 2017. Haynes and Boone Partners Anne Johnson and Kenya Woodruff accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

In 2011, Haynes and Boone was the inaugural recipient of the AT&T Legal Department Diversity Award in the large law firm category.

Diversity and inclusion are core values at Haynes and Boone. The firm seeks to attract, retain and promote individuals who reflect the global marketplace, the firm's clients and the communities it serves. Haynes and Boone further strives to create an environment in which all individuals at every level, have the opportunity to succeed professionally.

The Diversity Law Institute, a nonprofit international association committed to inclusion in the legal professional and justice systems in the United States and Canada, also recently honored Haynes and Boone for the firm's "excellence, involvement and efforts" to further diversity within the legal profession. That award was presented at the 2017 Diversity Law Institute Summit & Awards in Philadelphia Nov. 3.
