Hector Herrera Joins Haynes and Boone Mexico City as Office Celebrates 20 Years

December, 2014 - Mexico City, Mexico

Continuing to strategically expand talent in its growing Mexico City office, Haynes and Boone, LLP has welcomed Hector Herrera as a partner in the firm’s Environmental Practice Group.

“Given the anticipated rise in energy and other project investment, development and transactions in Mexico, Hector’s hands-on experience advising domestic and foreign companies doing business in the country is a strong addition to our already ample capabilities,” said Luis Moreno, Mexico City office administrative partner.

Herrera brings more than 26 years of experience practicing law in Mexico, particularly in the area of environmental law and water law. His practice focuses primarily on industries and developments with relevant environmental impacts, providing legal assistance and representation for domestic and foreign companies doing business in Mexico.

He focuses on industries including mining, chemicals, petrochemicals, hydrocarbons, rail roads, food and beverages, real estate developments, hydraulic resources and infrastructure. Herrera’s environmental law practice includes topic environmental impact, high risk activities, materials and wastes, emissions to the atmosphere, climate change, annual operation reporting, registry of emissions and transfer of pollutants, water (use and exploitation and discharges), noise, and litigation.

Herrera joins the firm as the Mexico City office celebrates 20 years of practice in the region. The fully-integrated Mexico City office was established in 1994 and Haynes and Boone is one of the most active U.S. law firms operating in Mexico, serving a growing list of international clientele. It is unique in having permanent senior Mexican lawyers based in its U.S. offices and conversely having an American expatriate working in its Mexico City office, thereby providing integrated working teams from both its U.S. and Mexican platforms.

Haynes and Boone Mexico saw growth throughout the year with the arrival of Partner Jorge Sanchez and Counsel Rafael Carmona, along with a number of associates. Sanchez engages in transactions related to a wide range of corporate and financial matters, while Carmona provides counsel to Mexican and foreign clients in the securities, banking and finance practice areas. Other key lateral hires include Energy Partner Ariel Ramos and Finance Partner Jorge Labastida.

Haynes and Boone lawyers are frequent speakers and quoted authorities on the business to be generated with the adoption of Mexico energy and infrastructure reforms, which could attract as much as $1.2 trillion in economic activity to the region in the next decade, according to a BBVA Compass economist.
