Brendan Smith is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. He received his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and served as a judicial extern for Justice Dana Oxley of the Iowa Supreme Court. During law school, Brendan co-authored a textbook titled Business Law, Ethics, and Sustainability, which will be used in the Tippie College of Business’s Introduction to Law course. Brendan earned a B.A. in Mathematical Economics from Colorado College.

Before attending law school, Brendan worked on the contracting team at Optum and DaVita Medical Group. In this role, he supported multimillion-dollar contract negotiations with major health insurance companies and provider groups. When DaVita Medical Group was acquired by Optum, he worked as the lead project manager responsible for ensuring that DaVita Medical Group’s contracts were updated to reflect the resulting name changes.
