Brooks Smith advises clients in their endeavors related to commercial real estate matters, commercial financing and general business transactions. Brooks represents developers, owners, users, borrowers and lenders in all aspects of commercial real estate development, acquisition, disposition, leasing and financing among all classes of real estate (office, retail, industrial, multi-family, and hospitality, medical and residential developments). Brooks also regularly represents lending institutions in all types of real estate and asset based financings, and has had significant experience advising lenders, and borrowers, in the work-out and restructuring of loans. Brooks' practice also includes general business and commercial law with a focus on legal opinion letters.
Brooks is active in legal, civic and community organizations. He is the current Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Real Estate Section and a graduate of the Young Leaders' Council. Brooks dedicates his time and knowledge to a number of organizations including, Valor Collegiate Academy, Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee (past board president), CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Land Trust for Tennessee and the Economic Club of Nashville.
Brooks is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Belmont Law School where he teaches Real Estate Transactions. Brooks frequently lectures on topics related to commercial real estate and finance.
