Profile

Doug Davis has practiced admiralty and maritime law in Alaska since 1978. Doug brings to the table extensive civil and criminal litigation experience in both state and federal courts, as well as experience with formal investigations and administrative actions before the National Transportation Safety Board, U.S. Coast Guard, and National Pollution Funds Center. 

He primarily represents ship owners and their underwriters in various marine casualties, including environmental and pollution cases, collisions, groundings, wreck removal, dock and other structural damage claims, fire, cargo damage and personal injury.

Significant Accomplishments

  • Has broad experience in all facets of legal representation during and after major marine casualties, including defense of civil and criminal actions, natural resources damage assessments, agency investigations and regulatory actions, and advice to clients during pollution response activities.
  • Has acted as Alaska correspondent for all of the Clubs within the International Group P&I Clubs, providing legal representation to their members, as well as general legal and regulatory advice on Alaska and federal law affecting the marine transportation and insurance industry in Alaska.
  • Has represented vessel owners and/or P&I Clubs in virtually every major marine pollution incident in Alaska during his career.
  • Successfully recovered pollution response costs for vessel owners and insurers from third parties and administrative agencies, including the largest single administrative recovery in the United States (exceeding $95 million).
