Profile

Dr James Wright is a Senior Associate in the medical negligence team of the Personal Advisory Division of Shoosmiths. James obtained science based BSc (Hons) and PhD degrees before studying law and qualifying as a solicitor in 2002.

James acts solely for patients and their families and has experience of dealing with all aspects of medical claims ranging from anaesthetic awareness cases to child birth trauma.  James has settled a number of very high value claims which involve protected parties which cannot be reported due to those matters being the subject of anonymity orders.

James was also the lawyer instructed by the Claimant in the much publicised Court of Appeal case of Harrison -v- University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust which provided clarity and guidance on costs budgeting issues.

James is an experienced public speaker and has lectured to both scientific and legal audiences. James has also published articles on topics of general medico-legal interest and has had some of his successfully concluded medical negligence cases reported in publications such as Clinical Risk and PI Focus.

James is a member of the AvMA Clinical Negligence Panel; and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
