Joel Gonzalez Lopez is an associate in the International Practice Group at Haynes and Boone, SC in Mexico City. His practice focuses on tax matters, both domestic and international, including tax planning, consulting, and litigation.

Joel has been involved in tax strategies developed for both domestic and international corporations, the design and implementation of efficient corporate structures that involve international estate planning, international tax and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. His practice focuses on Mexico investment structures, cross-border transactions, tax treaty planning, withholding obligations and reporting compliance on domestic and international transactions.

He also represents clients before Tax Authorities in national and international disputes, as well as fiscal and administrative litigation. Joel has experience in the elaboration of defense remedies to demonstrate the unconstitutionality of the diverse tax reforms, successfully defending the interests of their clients.

He has participated as an advisor for various companies in the mining, transport, consumer, food and financial sectors, collaborating in auditing operations and restructuring groups, specifically, in the definition of efficient and convenient tax structures for their clients.

Represents and advises clients in audits and controversies with Mexican tax authorities.

Has achieved the solution of tax controversies through alternative means of dispute resolution (conclusive
agreements) before the Mexican taxpayers advocate (Procuraduria de la Defensa del Contribuyente "PRODECON").

Directs clients to comply with Mexican tax obligations.

Assists U.S. and foreign clients to comply in Mexico with their tax and reporting requirements with respect to their operations and assets held in Mexico.

Counsels foreign companies and individuals looking to make investments and establish a presence in Mexico.

Advises on the acquisition and sale of Mexican companies owned by individuals in the U.S. and other jurisdictions.

Participated in the preparation of Mexican tax reforms proposed by Prodecon to the Chamber of Deputies, whose main objective was to safeguard the rights of taxpayers.

He has also participated in consulting projects including "Design, planning and implementation of the Online Trial in the Federal Tax Court" and "Strengthening the Investment Cycle in Mexico of the Investment Unit of the Ministry of Finance in Mexico.
