Profile

Tanner Hamilton is a renewable energy and commercial real estate attorney practicing out of the firm’s Nashville office. Tanner regularly assists utility-scale solar developers with a wide variety of real estate matters pertaining to project development, including drafting site control documents, conducting real estate closings, performing due diligence, assisting with zoning and permitting matters, and supporting project finance. Tanner also has significant experience drafting tax incentive agreements and assisting other real estate developers, including homebuilders, with their commercial real estate needs.

Tanner graduated second in his class and received his J.D. (summa cum laude) from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law and competed in the Bryant National Health Law Transactional Moot Court Competition. At the end of his first year, Tanner received the Knoxville Auxiliary to the Tennessee Bar Association Award, which is awarded to the first-year student with the highest scholastic average. He also earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in 12 different courses, including Property, Contract Drafting, Health Law Finance & Organization, Transactional Tax Planning, and Title Law.

Prior to law school, Tanner worked in the residential sector of the Nashville real estate market as a licensed real estate agent and property manager. Through his work, he negotiated purchase agreements, performed due diligence, and managed renovations.

Tanner has been published for writings regarding real estate and other matters. His article, Unauthorized Practice of Law in Residential Real Estate Transactions: The Use of Unlicensed Professionals and Standard Purchase Agreements, was published in the ABA’s Probate & Property Magazine. Tanner also authored a case commentary involving Kentucky real estate law that was published in Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law.
