Maine delegation at the State of Maine Reception at the U.S. Ambassador's Residence in Oslo, Norway.

Verrill Dana's North Atlantic & Arctic Group has been assembled to tap into our existing experience and increase our understanding of Arctic issues, and to build relationships with key Arctic stakeholders to ensure the firm is a critical resource for businesses and institutions looking to do business in "the new North." Verrill Dana has stayed up-to-date on the developments occurring in the region and our multi-disciplinary group of attorneys and governmental professionals continue to focus their skills, experience and governmental, international and industry relationships on the accelerating pace of commercial and technological innovation now happening in the North Atlantic countries and the Arctic.

Recently, attorney Ben Ford participated in a trade mission led by the Maine International Trade Center to Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Joined by representatives of other Maine businesses and educational institutions, this was Maine’s first state-led trade mission to Scandinavia. The Maine delegation learned more about the significance that increased trade among Arctic nations has on the state and, more specifically, new opportunities in the emerging areas of marine technology and life sciences.

In October 2016, Portland, Maine will host more than 200 Senior Arctic Officials (SAOs) for the 2016 plenary meeting of the Council of Arctic Nations. The SAOs will be accompanied by countless representatives from non-government organizations and indigenous peoples' groups. Verrill Dana will host several events, substantive and social, during the week.

Maine’s economic future is certainly blue, and as for the potential benefit to Maine and the Northeast this is just the tip of the iceberg.
