Bradley Partner Jim Murphy Quoted in Nashville Business Journal on Oracle's Record-Setting Proposal for Waterfront Tech Campus in Nashville

Bradley attorney Jim Murphy was quoted in the Nashville Business Journal on Oracle Corp.'s waterfront tech campus they aim to build in Nashville. Murphy, who is representing Oracle, joined company executives for a virtual meeting to present Oracle's proposal to build a 1.2 million-square-foot office campus on the East Bank of the Cumberland River and hire 8,500 employees within the next decade. The company expects to spend $1.2 billion on the development and up to $175 million more on public infrastructure. Oracle is under contract to buy 65 acres of land under the condition that Metro Council approves the incentives plan.

Murphy said the company aims to formally buy the land in June. If Metro Council approves the incentives, Oracle would begin a "very detailed design and planning process for the site," Murphy said. "That hasn't been done yet. That planning process will really flesh out what the infrastructure will look like … all the details everyone wants to know about the infrastructure will start to get fleshed out."

Murphy suggested eight to 10 months of planning work lies ahead, including rezonings and other issues requiring Metro oversight. Murphy also said the existing urban design overlay on the property needs to be amended because it envisions skyscrapers, which isn't consistent with Oracle's approach.

The original article, "Here's what Oracle Corp. executives told the Metro Industrial Development Board about their tech campus plans," appeared in the Nashville Business Journal on April 28, 2021.
