Mark Silverman Selected as One of 10 From Chicago and Midwest Region to Receive a 2021 Lawyers in Real Estate Award

Dykema is proud to announce that Mark Silverman, Chicago-based member and co-leader of the firm’s Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) Special Servicer Group, was chosen by Connect Commercial Real Estate (CRE) as one of only 110 attorneys from around the U.S. to receive a 2021 Lawyers in Real Estate Award. Furthermore, Silverman was spotlighted as one of only 10 attorneys from the Chicago and Midwest region.

According to Connect CRE, honorees were selected for excelling in their practices as well as their contributions to the community.

After joining Dykema, Silverman quickly ascended to member status and helped pave the way for the creation and development of the firm’s CMBS Special Servicer Group, to which he was appointed to co-lead. He also serves as chair of the firm’s nationwide Technology Advisory Committee and is a member of the firm’s Financial Industry Group.

In his practice, Silverman focuses on the areas of creditors’ rights, loan workout, bankruptcy, and loan enforcement on behalf of large, mid-sized, and small banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, and the nation’s largest CMBS special servicers. He successfully represents CMBS servicers and other secured lenders in obtaining the appointment of receivers in highly contested situations.

Silverman’s commercial foreclosure and workout experience spans many sectors, including hotel, retail, and esoteric assets like airports and taxi medallions. He also handles post-judgment collections and fraudulent transfer matters, litigating and resolving matters with significant recoveries to his judgment-creditor clients.

Silverman received a J.D. from Chicago – Kent College of Law and a B.A., cum laude, at the University of Illinois.
