Hurricane Ike Disaster Relief Trust

September, 2008 - Providenciales, Turks & Caicos

The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) were hit by two hurricanes, Hanna and Ike (a Category 4 storm) in the first week of September 2008, resulting in major damage to the islands of Grand Turk, South Caicos and Salt Cay, and significant damage in other islands in the territory.

In relation to hurricane relief for those islands badly affected, there are a lot of competing demands at present. Whilst in no way wishing to take resources away from other organizations assisting in the relief efforts, this firm has been instrumental in the establishment of the Ike Disaster Relief Trust, a charitable trust established to assist residents in the islands of Grand Turk, Salt Cay, South Caicos, North Caicos, and Middle Caicos whose homes have been destroyed or damaged by hurricane Ike.

The trustees of the trust are Ariel Misick (the founding partner of this firm), Sandy Lightbourne (former country manager of Barclays Bank here in TCI and a former chief executive of Belize Bank TCI), Peter Savory, principal of The Chartered Trust, one of TCI’s longest established trust companies and Carlos Simons, a highly-respected partner at Miller Simons O’Sullivan. Misick & Stanbrook has made a significant donation to the trust, and there have also been donations and commitments from other significant members of the local business community. The intention is not to duplicate the efforts of others but simply to establish a private fund for hurricane relief assistance.

Pending the establishment of a bank account for the Trust, this firm's client account is being used as the conduit for donations. Please click here for wiring details for relief donations.
