New partners announced at Shepherd and Wedderburn

Shepherd and Wedderburn has announced a series of new partner appointments, including the lateral hire of George Frier who will be joining the firm’s corporate team in Glasgow on 1 June. He joins from McClure Naismith where he was head of their corporate team. George has extensive commercial experience of domestic, cross border and international acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and financings with a strong focus in the food and drink and engineering sectors.

George’s arrival coincides with the internal appointment of three new partners – Colin Robertson, Colin Archibald and Anna Feros. Colin Robertson, who joined the firm in 2006 and is based in Glasgow, works in the property and infrastructure division with particular expertise in the renewables sector. Colin Archibald is based in the firm’s Edinburgh office and has over 10 years' experience in commercial dispute resolution, with a focus on construction and property dispute work. Anna Feros is in the firm’s media and technology team with over 15 years' experience in intellectual property and life sciences and is based in the London office.

The firm has also appointed partner Gordon Downie as its new head of Energy and Natural Resources, a move designed to underline Shepherd and Wedderburn’s focus on this sector. With 15 years of Energy and Natural Resources experience, Gordon is an acknowledged leader in the field of UK and EU competition law and regulation.

Shepherd and Wedderburn CEO Stephen Gibb said:

“It’s great news to attract someone of George’s calibre to the firm. He has a strong track record with a wealth of commercial experience and I’m confident he’ll bring additional strength to our team in Glasgow. His appointment signals our intent to grow the corporate practice as we continue our focus on our three key sectors, Energy and Natural Resources, Financial and Real Estate and Infrastructure.

I’m also delighted to see the promotion of our three colleagues to partner level. All are talented individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to both their colleagues and clients throughout their time at Shepherd and Wedderburn. These promotions will undoubtedly strengthen the firm and build business from our Edinburgh, Glasgow and London offices, as we move forward in developing new business opportunities.

Gordon’s new role as head of Energy and Natural Resources is also an important strategic development for us. He has a huge depth of experience within this sector which we aim to better utilise to help us further leverage new opportunities for the firm, both in the UK and overseas.”
