Consortium Centro América Abogados – El Salvador office represented Microsoft Corporation in a case regarding the violation of software property rights belonging to Microsoft. The case went to trial and the Judge ruled in the favor of Microsoft. The sentence imposed a two year prison term upon the defendant which was substitutable for community service. The defendant appealed and the Superior Criminal Court of Appeals confirmed the decision of the trial court. The defendant appealed to the Supreme Court to nullify the decision of the trial court.

This is the first historical conviction which in the matter of anti-piracy concludes with a condemnatory sentence instead of a conciliation.
